I wonder if VR/AR could be a helpful tool for helping people envision potential tipping point impacts in their communities?

Absolutely, I’ve thought about this too. Last year I mentioned this to a prominent SRM researcher and I suggested something like putting a viewer into the future and experiencing what it would be like for a farmer in Europe in a world where AMOC has stalled. And his response was “ahh no need, just show them how hot it already is right now!” So I imagine a day in the life of an outdoor laborer in India for example. Lots of ways to make good content for it. Challenge is the platform distribution and how do you get people to actually see this when there’s so little hardware penetration in the market. Maybe art exhibits?

Hardware-assisted would be better, but I think you could even do filters on video/photos. Maybe a social media feature?

For Europe, I thought the issue with AMOC stalling was extreme cold, rather than heat?

Hmm say more about filters?

Yes for AMOC, I meant like envisioning a farmer scrabbling to get any growth from their crops because it’s too cold.

I think within an app, you can create options for overlays that go over what you're viewing through your camera within that app. I remember this being a thing with Snapchat, though it's been a decade since I've used it. I don't recall if they're something you can view in real time, as you're taking a picture or video, or if it's something that goes on after.

So eloquent and thought provoking. Do we think AI/ML have a place here in help recognizing tipping points or is there no sample training set yet to train these technologies to do so?
